Cruising The Great Barrier Reef

This morning, January 2, 2008, I woke early and sat on the balcony for a long time doing yoga, reading and watching schools of small, jumping fish. They looked small but I have to remember from our cabin on Deck 7 they are actually much larger. I also heard a bird singing a beautiful song but I could never locate the bird.

We were quick close to some rocky islands and also some that were green. The islands extended as far as I could see. You could also tell by the light strips in the water that there were places where the water was very shallow. Glad we have a pilot on board!
The Great Barrier Reef is about 1200 miles long along the northeast coast of Queensland. We are cruising along heading toward Cairns- which is called the "Capital of the Great Barrier Reef." In the next several days we will be doing all sorts of viewing and underwater experiences in and around the Reef.

Today we went to Trivia and we won 1st place. Then we went to a great food and wine pairing where the variety of tasting experiences taught us a lot about the connection between food, wine, sauces, and spices.

A day at sea is always relaxing and refreshing for both of us!
