Corfu- June 30

The Families in Dubrovnik

Our cruise is working out just perfect. Everybody seems to be enjoying the company of everybody else while doing things in their own style. Couldn’t be better.

Samari Helmet over the bed
Our Penthouse Suite is the gathering place at the end of the day. The bedroom in the suite is huge with a dressing table and another bench kind of table. Over the bed is a Samari Helmet set into the wall- feels kind of strange. There is a big picture window that overlooks the right hand end of the balcony.
Michael, Jack and Ethan in Corfu
The day in Corfu was terrific.  The sail in was lovely. Corfu is the second largest of the Ionian islands and often called the greenest island. Much of the island is covered in olive groves, mountains or woodlands. This is the spot that Homer called “City of the Phaeacians” and is remembered fondly as the “beautiful and rich land” once extolled by Odysseus. It is also thought to have been the model for the place of Prospero’s and Miranda’s exile in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.”

Bill and Kate in Corfu
Bill, Kate, Michael, Jack, and Ethan stopped by on their way out about 11:00. They were off exploring.  They got a taxi into town and then explored the old fortress and the town.
Will, Kathryn and Christopher did the same exploring on their own. Ella stayed aboard and went to the Club Hal program. Something for everyone. Apparently they all ate tasty lunches in different restaurants but ate the same traditional Greek dish of spaghetti with something like a meatball except it was a pot roast type of beef. Everybody was happy. Kathryn had what she declared to be the best Greek Salad she had ever tasted.

Everybody seems to be enjoying ice cream and strolling the streets of the towns.

Barnett guys in Dubrovnik
Last evening Bill’s family joined us for dinner in the Vista Dining Room and the Cheek/Barnett family did more casual dining after Ella awoke from her long nap. The children are being great even though they are stretched to their limit with activities and new sights to explore.

Ethan after a hot day in Corfu
This morning we sailed into Katakolon, the site of the Ancient Olympic Village. I am sure when the crowd returns from their tour there will be tales to tell and photos to see.  Meanwhile, we are reading and loving just hanging out in this incredible space. Nothing like breakfast delivered and consumed while you sit on a deck with a  sparkling view of the beautiful Greek island of Katakolon .

What fun to follow yur trip! We've never been to Corfu to Cata-whatever! And I love that you are lounging away while family plays! That is the way to do these things!. Plus I'm learning about your various stops from your posts!

Yikes, the days are flying by. It's so much fun to see the pictures of the family visiting all the places we visited a couple of years ago. And that suite you are in is something else! It's 2:20 PM as I write this -- you're probably at dinner or just finished. Looking forward to your post from Katakalon -- great place to be with the Olympics coming up very soon.

Be sure to tell the children not to sample raw olives! I hear the extremely bitter taste stays with you for a long time.
Have you sampled any new wines? Is there something we should add to the list of wines to purchase back in good 'ole Florida? (Can you tell what my priorities are???) Keep on keepin' on.
